Book Review: Catwoman Soulstealer by Sarah J. Maas

Greetings My Lovelies!

It’s Monday so that’s means that it’s time once again for me to do a book review.  Yea! So here’s how this works. I rate books on a scale of coffee cups….because I love coffee.  Also there will be no spoilers in these reviews.

0 cups= I hated it/couldn’t finish

1 cup= did like but finished bc I’m stubborn

2 cups= meh

3 cups= Not the best but interesting enough to finish

4 cups= I really like it.

5 cups=OMG YOU HAVE TO READ THIS

Rating:

4 Cups

General Overview:

This is the third installment of the DC Icon series.  It follows Selina Kyle as she returns to Gotham City and sets herself up as the Queen of the Underworld.  Instead of Batman, they pair her up with Luke Fox, the son of Lucius Fox, with the call sign of Batwing.  We see some old favorites like Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and the Joker.  This story has an ending that I never saw coming.

My Thoughts:

As a kid I loved Catwoman.  I still do today (minus that Halley Berry film).  Catwoman lives her life by her own rules and no one else.  I also love Sarah J Maas.  I stumbled across her Throne of Glass series and instantly fell in love then I read A Court of Thorn and Roses and sold my soul to her.  So this mash up of my two favorite women was a match made in heaven.  I had no idea where the book was heading but that’s the way I like it.  I never got the impression that Selina was whole good or bad, which is true to her character.  I loved the cat and mouse between Catwoman and Batwing.  It never bothered me once that she wasn’t with Batman.  The ages wouldn’t work so hey…I also loved the Harley and Ivy dynamic.  All in all, another good read from my queen.

Reread factor:

This was an entertaining read.  I’ll definitely read it again at some point, but probably when I stumble across it on my shelves.

Marvel….My addiction

So with the leisurely time that is my summer vacation, I have dedicated some of that time to catching up on some shows that I’ve been meaning to watch.  These shows are on on Netflix, which I recently acquired.  The shows in question are Jessica Jones and Daredevil and in case you don’t know both of these are own by Marvel.  Goddammit Marvel!  Why do you have to make such awesome shows.  I really want to give DC a chance, but they are seriously lagging behind in the content department. Anyways, if you haven’t checked these shows out yet, you really need to.  I will admit that the first season of Daredevil is a little boring but the second season more than makes up for it.  Either way I am happily slipping further and further into my Marvel addiction.  Please say a prayer for my poor husband who has to listen to me rant and rave over fictional characters.  Ha ha

Further Down the Rabbit Hole

As you may know, I am a life long geek and proud of it.  My childhood consisted of comic books, Lord of the Rings (the cartoons), Star Wars and Star Trek.  I didn’t realize I was a geek at that time, I just knew that I had some epic fandoms I was apart of.  I appreciated the artwork, the story telling, and the delivery.  When I entered my teen years I discovered anime (thank you Adult Swim) and fell a little further down the rabbit hole.  However, as I got older, these things got pushed to the back burner.  It wasn’t that I was ashamed of them, or that I didn’t like them anymore.  It just that it’s hard to keep up with these things when you’re in the military.  It takes over your life and it doesn’t really release you until you leave the ranks.

Now don’t get me wrong, I loved my time in the Marines and I would go back to all that in a heartbeat, but I love having more time to enjoy the things that I love.  Which brings me to the point of this post.  I don’t know if I’ve already mentioned this, but I’ve started to get back into comics.  Mostly Marvel, but some DC.  My husband doesn’t really understand but bless his heart he does tolerate me.  I’m already into so many things already it’s surprising that I find time for anything else.  Oh well, at least I’ll be happy as I descend further into the many fandoms out there.  It’s been nice know you all!  Ha ha.
