In honor of Valentines Day, I have decided to share a poem dedicated to love. However, I decided to take an unconventional approach. Instead of talking about how in love a person can be, I thought it would be better to have a poem showing the other side, when love starts to fade. Love is wonderful, I love my husband dearly, but sometimes things happen that get in the way of love. Maybe work is getting to be too much? Maybe there was a fight and both parties are too proud to say they are sorry? Or maybe, the love you once felt has faded away as you and your partner have grown and changed. Losing love is just as much a part of life as falling in love. Both are necessary to life because how can we appreciate love if it doesn’t go wrong from time to time. So cherish the love you have for those around you and try to not let things in the way, but also remember that sometimes, there’s nothing you can do. When that happens, all you can do is pick up the pieces of your heart, dust yourself off, and get back out there.
So Close, So Far
How can this be?
I do not know?
How can you be so close and yet so far?
Even though we sit here together,
It feels like you are a thousand miles away.
The space between us could hold the world,
Yet I can reach out to touch you.
How did we get this way?
I cannot remember anymore,
I hope it was important.
I want to fix it,
I know you do too.
But we both are too proud
To say “I’m sorry first”.
So we sit now in total silence, tense,
How can we be so close and yet so far?
