New Segment

Greetings!

I was shifting through some of my work later this evening, and I came across my poem folder.  Now I’m not going to lie, some of them are quite cringe worthy, but some I still like.  I don’t write many poems but I would like to share some of them with you.  The one that I’m starting off with is something that I wrote in 2005 back when I was an angry teen, but didn’t really know who I was angry at.  However, as I read it, it stands pretty true (to me) for today’s problems.  So I hope you enjoy it and I’ll try to feature a poem once a month.

Land of the Free

Oh say can you see
we are the land of the free
Lies that we have been told from birth
that are empty and have no worth
But the only time that they are true
is only when we look like you.

Oh what a hypocrisy
our country has become to be
so that those who think differently
become the public’s enemy.

Those who are of a different race
are now a public’s own disgrace
And those who are not like the norm
are beaten, harassed, and torn
And they who look with different eyes
are looked upon with despise

Oh what a hypocrisy
our country has become to be
so that those who think differently
become the public’s enemy.

So what I now ask of you my country
it’s really only a small little thing
Rethink how you claim to be
the precious land of the free.
